The Story of Sankranthiki Vasthunam
In a small village in Andhra Pradesh, a man named Raghav worked in the bustling city of Hyderabad. Like many others, he had left his village in search of better opportunities. Despite earning well and living a comfortable life, he always felt a void—he missed his childhood memories, the festive spirit, and the warmth of his family.
As Sankranti approached, his mother called and asked, “Raghav, Sankranthiki vasthava?” (Will you come home for Sankranti?)
Busy with work, Raghav hesitated. But then, he remembered his childhood—flying kites with friends, eating Ariselu and Pongal, and sitting by the bonfire on Bhogi night. The joy of watching Haridasu singing songs, the festive rangoli in front of his home, and the thrill of bull races in the fields flashed through his mind.
With a smile, he replied, “Amma, Sankranthiki vasthunam!” (Mom, I am coming for Sankranti!)
His mother was overjoyed. As he boarded the train, he saw many others like him—students, workers, and families—all returning home, their eyes filled with excitement. The train was packed with people carrying sweets, gifts, and bags full of love.
When Raghav reached his village, he was welcomed with open arms. The house smelled of freshly prepared sweets, the courtyard was decorated with Muggulu (rangoli), and the sounds of laughter filled the air. That night, as he sat with his family, he realized that no matter where life takes him, his heart will always belong to his roots.
And so, “Sankranthiki Vasthunam” became more than just a phrase—it became a symbol of love, nostalgia, and the eternal connection to home.
